Drosera heterophylla

The most distinctive feature of this species is the flower. D. heterophylla is the only tuberous drosera species with regularly more than 5 or the occasional 6 petals per flower. Mostly I found 8-10 petals per flower and a maximum of 12 petals is reported by Lowrie.
Another distictive feature is the growth habit: I never observed this species to form a basal rosette. Even the seedlings directly form a short stem with 2-3 scattered leaves. Adult plants produce a glabrous stem up to 30 cm in height, obviously without forming a basal rosette first.
Few bracts are formed at the lower part of the stem and the leaves are always solitary. The tubers are white.
